A Great Friday

Any day I am handed a song title, let alone an entire line, from Karl Rove, I consider a good one. In the fall of 2005, as his pal Scooter Libby was being raked over the coals for his involvement in the Valerie Plame outing, Rove was asked for a comment by reporters, and he said, “I am going to have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend and  hope you do, too.” I loved the incongruity of the sentiment considering his situation, and penned this country-western ditty on October 28, guessing what Rove might have said had he kept talking.

I am going to have a great Friday

And a fantastic weekend

And hope you do, too

I am going to watch my good friend burn at the stake

Until he dissolves into

An unrecognizable goo

I am going to see my name dragged through the mud

And watch my precious reputation

Mercilessly and publicly skewered

I am going to have a great Friday

And a fantastic weekend

And hope you do, too
