Everywhere Love

Attending a friend’s wedding down in Rockport, Massachusetts in the spring of 2006, I woke up in the B&B overlooking the sea and wrote the first draft of this love song for my wife on May 27, completing it on June 13. I like how the verses don’t rhyme. It’s the little things.

Love                                       brought us to this

point in our lives                 where we look back

and straight ahead              with no regret

with no false hope               just the belief

all will be fine                       as long as we

stay by side                           loving each other

Love                                          fell in our laps

nothing we sought                 nothing we planned

bright morning sun               over the sea

white-washed old porch       day beckons us

where shall we go                  what shall we do

haven’t we learned                fate keeps us flowing

Look behind, look below, look above

Everywhere I see nothing but love, everywhere

Love                                         a touch of the hand

a slip of the tongue               a laugh on the phone

a walk in the woods              no Cary Grant

or Lauren Bacall                   no script to learn

we’re on our own                  feel our way through

caught in the act                   of improvisation

Look behind, look below, look above

Everywhere I see nothing but love, everywhere love

A rising sun, a day where you and I fall in love
