Colors Fade

June 18, 2006 up in Round Pond. It’s a ballad in the vein of the Everlys’ Love Hurts, so naturally I tried to be heartfelt about it. But after the first two verses, I feared sap overload, and started spoofing my own song with the bitter third and fourth verses. Someone I knew was going through a divorce at the time, and my wife thought it was about that unfortunate couple. It wasn’t, but I suppose these types of feelings come with that awful territory. This was a Nerve staple, which Scott sung beautifully.

It’s nothing that you’ve said or done that makes me feel this way

But what we’ve had has come undone, what would you have me say?

Things will break or fall apart, time can be so cruel

Colors fade within a heart, there’s nothing you or I can do

We shared most everything one can for such a long, long time

Still you keep what’s yours and then you can take what’s mine

Things will break or fall apart, time can be so cruel

Colors fade within a heart, there’s nothing you or I can do

On second thought I’d like the house, you should pack and get out

I’ve put so much work into that house, you I can do without

Things will break or fall apart, time can be so cruel

Colors fade within a heart, there’s nothing you or I can do

It’s sad to say goodbye my dear, as you walk out the door

Just leave the key on the table here, you won’t need it no more

Things will break or fall apart, time can be so cruel

Colors fade within a heart, there’s nothing you or I can do
