Blue Sky, Blue Sea

Written July 24, 2002, this is a simple sea song inspired by vacations on Muscongus Bay. My wife and I have had long discussions on the probability of a shark attack in Maine waters; hence the final verse.

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

Wind from the west carries us across the bay

Wind from the east brings us home at the end of the day

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

Pull on the sheet, see the jib billow out

Watch your head darling when I say “coming about”

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

We’ll go and watch the seals bask in the sun

We’ll have seen Thief Island when the day is done

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

Why look so scared baby, soon we’ll go back

It’s been a good fifty years since a shark attack

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me

Blue sky, blue sea, blue eyes, come sail away with me
